Grace On Ireland

This Friday I am running in the Reach The Beach Relay (200 miles, 24 hours, 12 runners) to help raise money for the Taryn L. King Memorial Scholarship Fund at Bowdoin College.  Taryn was a former teammate of mine when I played college lacrosse.  Taryn died unexpectedly at age 21 from septicemia while studying abroad during the second semester of her junior year at the National University of Ireland (NUI), Galway.  I painted this 20" x 20" landscape Grace on Ireland for the silent auction that will take place at the annual fundraiser event called Go Big or Go Home for TLK (www.tarynlking.org)Through those dark clouds, there is warm light that brightens the grassy earth tones on those playful, rolling hills of Ireland.   Grace...

In between miles of depth you can find playfulness

So today I wanted to play.  I was inspired by my hike this weekend with my husband and daughter.  This was my daughter's first hike up Mansfield.  To think it was her first time really seeing miles of depth was a new wonder.  The hike could have been worrisome and difficult bringing an eight month old up the biggest mountain in Vermont...but it was all coos and smiles each step of the way.  My brush took a playful role today.  This is done on a 24"x24" gallery wrapped canvas.

Hip to be square? or circle?

Its hip to be square.  Walking around in circles on this square 1'x1' wood panel just reminds me of one of those cheery, happy-go-lucky, summer days.

I decided to play with color and stick to a simple landscape on a 1'x1' wood panel.  The purple one to the right is more realistic in color whereas the one to the left is done in browns and teals, a feel that brings me back to the icy waters of Lake Tahoe.

Dips and Turns, Vibrant and Local

This week I continued working with the rolling hills landscape and painted three square mini's measuring 3" x 3". They remind me of what I love about road biking here in Vermont. The rolling hills and the mountain views peak over the horizon as the road dips and turns here and there. To balance this macro perspective, I went to the micro level to depict the captivating vibrant color of poppies that are now in bloom locally.

New Beginnings

So here it is! I've been talking about sharing my paintings for some time now. I'm starting off with a simple blog and we'll see where this journey takes me....

This week I turned down a teaching gig (very part time) to be able to continue caring and playing with my daughter Maya and to begin PAINTING again! Here are my first two of many to come. I tackled a 3ft x 3ft canvas first. Mansfield in Autumn. The second one is of haystacks and is on a much smaller scale, 5" x 5".
